Taxi negotiations and visit to Caïro, Egyptian Museum

12 mei 2022 - Cairo, Egypte

Ofcourse we could not leave Egypt without having visited the treasures and antiquities of Egypt. So after an early start today I tried the Uber app and ordered a cab.

Easy, the Spanish tourist said. And cheaper than arranged by the hotel.

Ibrahim, the driver negotiated and we ended up with pressing the price down from a 1200 2way trip to 800 lires. That still is 430 Norwegian kroner which is again 42 euros and 44 dollars. Which I thought was a high price for a trip which takes 40 minutes.

The uber app told us it was 120 lires so that was not correct at all.

Okay, the only trip left to do for us is the cruise on the Nile, which I think is best to organize with the hotel.

We went to the Egyptian museum first, where the sarcophagus of Toe-thank-Amon is preserved. Not allowed to take pictures in there. It was crowded even though it was still early. I heard many different languages. The collection is very impressive I must say. But still I took plenty of other pictures.

Then we went inside a mosque. I thought it would be interesting to take a look inside. Ofcourse being a non-Muslim I was required to put on a covering cloak. I look ridiculous but it is their country so I do this and my curiosity wins.

After that we went to the famous basar Khan-el-Kallili. Still leftovers from the famous caravan days. But the real handicraft items were not to be found there.

It was more like a local market without the handicrafts. So not very impressive anymore.

After half a day running through Caïro, it was long enough and the temperatures were rising fast.

But glad we saw the mosque inside and the museum.

Bye for now. 😎
